A golfer’s guide to the course (Part 6, Conclusion)

NO. 16: 379 YARDS, PAR 4
This hole will give up a bunch of birdies, and it wouldn’t shock me if a few guys bomb it on this shortish par 4, and roll in an eagle 2. Yes, there is water right, but the fairway bunkers left, most guys will drive it past opening up a bail out area green high left to hit a very short pitch shot to the hole location.
NO. 17: 436 YARDS, PAR 4
A medium-length hole over a gentle hill to a green that sits slightly below the fairway level. Water behind and left is not really in play because the putting surface is very large and receptive. Unless there is a direct headwind, players will hit medium to short irons in here. If no wind or downwind, the guys will attack this hole coming down the stretch.
NO. 18: 456 YARDS, PAR 4
Into a headwind from the back tee, some people don’t go this far on vacation. This hole can be a beast.
I hope the tour officials set this one up to force the guys to play a real golf hole to finish up. Fairway bunkers left are deep and very, very unfriendly. A water hazard lines the right side, and although the water is good-sized, anytime you’re playing the last hole with a one-shot lead, it looks small. The second shot to a wide-but-shallow green is interesting. The green has subtle movements that require a good read.
