Chipping the ball around the perimeter of the green is an overlooked art form and certainly an under-practiced area of the game. Fundamentally, aside from mechanical technique, I ask my students to focus not on the eventual target, The Hole, but on practicing making the ball land at a given point. I call this point “the primary point.” I feel if you can consistently land the ball, you can then control how far it will roll out! Practice to a tee or a coin and practice trying to get your ball to land exactly on the object, then see, based on how far the ball carried, how far it rolls. You’ll now know your chipping air to ground time ratios!!
