You might think I’m crazy after all it’s still January. However as a golf nut and somebody who loves if not lusts the first right of spring, Augusta and April is truly heaven on earth.
The reason I begin watching closely now is start to scout whose game will round into form and peak at just the right time. It is so very interesting to me to watch how the very best plan their schedule and in what way each thinks is proper preparation.
There are clear early favorites. Rory, Adam, Rickey and the lot, but it’s way too early now. A putting or driving slump … an injury … so many factors will play out over the next several months.
Back here on the home front I have been thinking and observing for the past 14 years since I landed here in Paradise. We live in a wonderful golf rich community full of wonderful facilities. We have so many GOLF NUTS who day to day, week to week, month to month each season hit thousands of golf shots basically the same way as they did the season before. I have always felt that improvement, true game changing improvement, is in fact possible for any player regardless of gender or age. If I truly didn’t believe that I wouldn’t do what I do nor be as passionate about my craft.
I thought the very first thing that needed to be done was change the way golfers see golf. If you see yourself as a 100 player you’ll always be a 100 player. People have to see the possibility, the vision of real change in order to embrace it!
I have therefore decided to begin a series of events that anyone can attend to hear “experts” discuss real golf-related topics. Not just the gospel according to Tom, but other free thinkers who have found various roads to golf success.
The first event will be TP GOLF NIGHT on Jan. 13th at the Quarry in Naples, FL. I have arranged to have a player who won 2 events on a major professional tour come and speak. Seating will be limited. If you would like to be a part of what will be an extremely insightful kick-off please feel free to contact me directly at tpatri@mindspring.com.
Remember keep your eyes open. Who is your early Masters favorite!
