A Fresh Mental Approach is All You Need to Get Your Sand Game
On Track (Part 5
)

FlNE-TUNING THE SHOT (PART 2, Conclusion):

Likewise, you can adjust to different hardnesses and depths of sand. If the sand is very firm and shallow, there’s more chance of the club “bouncing” into the ball so it comes out faster. In these cases, turn your
sand club into more of a “digger” (photo, below left). You do this by setting the club square at address, which makes the leading edge dig into the sand more at impact. If the sand is soft and deep, the tendency will be
for the club’s forward momentum to get snuffed out. Here you should turn your sand wedge into a “skidder.” Open the face (photo, below right), so the entire flange contacts the sand and acts like a skidder, moving just below the sand’s surface. The more you practice these variations, the more adept you’ll become at getting the ball close to the hole, regardless of the distance or the sand’s texture.
