FlNE-TUNING THE SHOT (PART1):
.
Golfers who re-learn the simplicity of this shot invariably say, “Okay, now that I can get it out every time, how do I get it close to the pin?” Well, you control the length of the shot with any one or all of these three factors: 1) Degree the clubface is open; 2) The amount of sand you displace; or 3) Varying pace of your swing. For a very short sand shot (photo, left), lay back the face more, aim to make contact a bit farther behind the ball, and/or make a swing with a slower pace. If you face a long sand shot, say 30 yards or more to the hole (photo, right), you adjust any or all of these three factors in the opposite direction—squarer clubface, enter the sand slightly closer to the ball, and/or a faster swing pace.
