A golfer’s guide to the course (Part 2)

NO. 4: 445 YARDS, PAR 4
A bit of a beast, depending on wind direction. Downwind the bombers will launch it over the fairway bunkers right and shorten the pole by a large margin. For those mortals in the field, they will have to play it left of those bunkers, leaving a second shot that will be much longer. Into the wind, the hole can be a nasty bugger. The fairway allows you to play, but water right is always lurking.
NO. 5: 431 YARDS, PAR 4
The severe dogleg left is a temptation for the bombers to cut the comer, but my feeling is this medium-length par 4 should be respected. A position shot off the tee will lead to a 7-, 8-, 9-iron to a rolling green. Be smart here and live to fight another day.
NO. 6: 178 YARDS, PAR 3
A short, but pesky little par 3. Any pin right of center is guard by a deep front bunker. The fun only begins there, as the putting surface slopes away from arriving shots, and can be firm. You get the picture. Not what I would term a “friendly” short hole. This little fellow can nip at the players’ heels.
