Fault: Staying on back foot
Michael’s problem was poor weight displacement in the downswing. He hung back, trapping his arms behind the body. This caused an excessive in-to-out swing path with little chance of squaring the clubface at impact. As a result, he hit push-slices: The ball started right and curved farther off line.
Fix: Finish on front foot
To correct Michael’s poor weight displacement, I (1) took his hand, as if to shake it, then (2) pulled him around to a full finish. This keeps his upper body over his legs, and he can release the club naturally and square the clubface. His ball flight is now much straighter. Focus on this front-foot finish to avoid slicing the ball.
